G2E ... See You There!

By JACK BULAVSKY

AGEM members anticipate sharing new products at G2E

Global Gaming Expo 2002 (G2E) is next month, and all of us at the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) are looking forward to sharing our new products with you. But more importantly, AGEM members anticipate meeting old friends and making new ones, and we encourage you to attend this international gaming show and stop by one of our many booths and introduce yourself.

AGEM is proud to be a co-sponsor of G2E, along with the Australian Casino Association (ACA), Association Latinoamericana de Juegos de Azar (ALAJA), European Gaming Organization (EGO) and Gaming Standards Association (GSA). This will be the preeminent international gaming industry trade show and conference, and it brings out the best the industry has to offer. According to Marcus Prater, vice president of marketing for Bally Gaming and Systems, "Last year's show attracted a level of customer quality that Bally Gaming hasn't seen in quite some time."

Joe Bailo, vice president of sales and marketing for Atronic Americas, had similar thoughts. "We were favorably impressed by the turnout at G2E last year, especially in light of world events," he said. "We noticed that customers were coming to our booth with a particular focus. They were on a serious fact-finding mission and were interested in buying. We were excited about what our customers were saying-not only about our products, but about the entire G2E experience."

WMS Gaming Executive Vice President Scott Schweinfurth was also pleased with the volume of activity at his company's booth. "Everyone was excited about the games we had on the show floor," he explained, "and when people are excited, it's great for us, because this industry is all about having great games. We launched a number of new ones at G2E and I can report that they grabbed a lot of attention and generated sales."

Early numbers indicate this year's G2E will be just as exciting, with the latest products, technologies, trends, issues and ideas. As of July 1, G2E had secured over 500 exhibitors occupying more than 184,000 square feet-75 percent larger than last year. Preregistration is well ahead of last year, with just under 8,000 buyers from around the world.

And around the world means just that. G2E has conducted a worldwide advertising blitz that has reached into Australia, Russia, Canada, England, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. To ensure even greater exposure to the vast global audience, G2E harnessed the power of its informative Internet website (www.globalgamingexpo.com/W2) and has constantly updated it with industry news, show highlights, conference and keynote speaker information, and hotel and travel logistics.

The conference schedule has been expanded to incorporate all aspects of the industry. Workshops and seminars are being held in Communications & Marketing, Games & Technology, Gaming Law & Regulation, Internet Operations, Lottery, Management, Native American Gaming, Pari-mutuel, Gaming Development, Security, Bingo, and Research & Public Policy.

This is going to be an exciting show and I'm looking forward to it. If you have a moment, please stop by the AGEM booth and say hello. I'll be there each day and would enjoy the conversation.

EDITOR'S LETTER

Standing Together

In this month's editorial, Jamie McKee says that the industry must put forward a more cooperative effort and speak with one voice in addressing issues important to us. If we don't, our critics will do the talking for us.
