Date : 10/11/00
LAS VEGAS (October 11, 2000) - The curtain will rise on the 14th annual World Gaming Congress and Expo (WGCE) on October 18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In anticipation of WGCE 2000, event organizers today unveiled plans for the star-studded opening ceremony. International singing sensation Clint Holmes will open the ceremonies by singing the American national anthem. Following Holmes' performance, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will welcome visitors to his city. Alex Trebek, the star of television's Jeopardy, will welcome attendees and cut the ribbon with Goodman and Holmes, officially opening the doors on the world's largest gaming industry trade show. "We are excited that Alex Trebek, Mayor Goodman and Clint Holmes are joining us to open the 14th annual WGCE," said Bill Newman, President and CEO of GEM Communications, parent company of WGCE. "We are expecting more than 700 exhibitors and 25,000 attendees from more than 80 countries, so it is appropriate to have three such world-renowned celebrities open the show with us." This year's WGCE will be the largest ever, both in terms of attendance and in the number of exhibitors. For the first time ever, the entire exhibit floor is sold out. In addition to the trade show, more than 70 seminars will be held on gaming-related topics, ranging from Indian gaming to Internet gaming, beginning with the one-day Slot Manager Institute on October 16. WGCE will run October 18 through 20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. A complete schedule of the three-day event is available at worldgaminglive.com .
