NEW YORK (July 7, 2000)– The sound of slot bells ringing can be heard around the world. From Las Vegas and Atlantic City to North America’s tribal casinos, from Australia and Asia to South America and Europe, from lotteries to the World Wide Web, gaming has become a vibrant industry across the globe.
This year’s World Gaming Congress is larger and more international in scope than ever before. With that in mind, organizers have scheduled sessions dealing specifically with gaming on an international scale, and other sessions exploring gaming on the Internet.
One discussion will center on the hurdles facing operators who conduct business in Europe when the new single currency is introduced in 2002. Eric Bidault, General Manager of Think and Do International in France, will lead a panel of experts from France and Spain in a discussion of some of the challenges to be faced, as well as solutions some casino operators have fashioned to deal with those challenges.
South America’s many different cultures and political systems pose a wide range of protocol and regulatory questions to casino operators. As regulations vary dramatically from country to country, many investors have cooled to South America’s prospects, seeing difficult obstacles. IGWB’s South America correspondent, Bruce Handler, will lead a panel of successful operators who have made South America’s casino world profit for them.
Investors are now looking at Asia as the next gold mine in gaming. But what regulation and marketing lessons can operators and investors learn from Asia’s closest continental neighbor, Australia, long considered to be the most competitive gaming market in the world? A panel of experts from Asia and Australia will discuss lessons to be learned and the climate of gaming in that region today
Also, South Africa has long been seen as the next major world player in casino operations. However, development and licensing have been slow processes to date. Gaming for Africa’s editor, Roy Bannister, heads a team of experts to update the Congress on the latest developments in this emerging market.
The World Gaming Congress is being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center October 18-20. It is the world’s preeminent gaming industry conference and trade show, attracting more than 24,000 attendees from 80 countries. More than 700 exhibitors from around the world will demonstrate state-of-the-art technology, new trends, and the latest products. Industry experts deliver their insights into the hot topics of the industry in over 70 seminars over the course of three days.
The highly popular Slot Manager Institute will be held the day before the opening of the expo on October 17. Slot executives and managers from all over the world will learn more about cutting-edge technologies, the latest game developments and security strategies.
