| GEM COMMUNICATIONS NAMES ASHLEY SMITH AS PRESIDENT OF U.S. OPERATIONS |
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (January 15, 2002) - GEM Communications, LLC, today announced that Ashley Smith has been named as President of GEM Communications U.S., where he will oversee the company's U.S. publications and trade shows. Smith has been a representative of GEM Communications for eight years. He was previously Director of International Sales from his office in France. Smith now will be based in GEM's Las Vegas office, home to the company' editorial and sales staffs. Charles Anderer will continue as Group Publisher, overseeing all of GEM's U.S.-based publications, including IGWB, Casino Journal, Casino Executive Reports, Indian Gaming Business, Lottery Business, Slot Manager and National Gaming Summary. Anderer will report to Ashley Smith in his new role as President of GEM Communications U.S. Also reporting directly to Smith will be GEM's trade show group, under the direction of Lesley Grashow. Smith will report to GEM Communications CEO Bill Newman. "Ashley Smith is one of the most respected and knowledgeable people in our profession," Newman said. "He has built and nurtured outstanding relationships with gaming professionals across Europe and around the world.
